What is fine art and why I choose analog photography in my work.

A few years ago I was in the same position as you!

I was about to get married and had no idea whom to hire to capture my day. I knew I wanted beautiful, but I couldn’t define it in words, and I just couldn’t find the right person to carry out my vision (mainly because I didn’t know it was analog photography that I desired). This is how my personal journey into wedding photography began. I was drawn to photos my grandparents had, I loved seeing the classic look and emotion translated from the little piece of paper straight into my heart. I wanted to do the same for everyone I met, and I began with a desire to learn analog photography. In the sea of photography styles, different editing, and personal touches, I knew there was something classic and timeless about film. Driven by the beauty of light in Texas, architecture of the old world, uniqueness of my home in Russia, I now shoot most of my personal work on film, emulating that same look in my commissioned work. I want to capture the beauty that light paints into a frame on your wedding day, the way old masters used to paint portraits onto a canvas - I want you to look back and feel everything all over again, the way you did when you married your best friend.

I am a constant learner as well, and being one I always discover something new about me, about my craft, and about the world around me. This also burned a fire within in me to teach my clients on how to get the best out of their photography. Inspired by fashion and design and all the knowledge I have gained thus far, I strive to educate my clients, help them, and of course look out for them when it comes to their wedding and portraits. I would love nothing more but sit down and learn about you - this will inspire me and ignite the fire that is so needed in photography. Contact me about doing a session with me if you feel like I am the right choice for you. I honestly can’t wait to meet you!

Q: What equipment do you use?

A: During a wedding day I shoot mainly digital and film. That is called shooting hybrid. Your portraits, details and pre-ceremony I will always shoot on film using my Contax 645 while my second shooter will back me up with a Nikon Z6 or Nikon D750. I try to emulate the closest look to my film photos so my lenses range from the sharpest prime lenses to some old analog film lenses that I adapt to my cameras. Your reception is always shot on my digital cameras with on and off camera flashes.

Q: DO YOU HAVE suggestions for outfits and locations?

A: Of course! I have a style guide made just for you where you can get ideas for what looks great and makes for timeless photos. Not all outfits look the best on everyone, because we are all unique, so take the guide as a suggestion and make your outfits work for you. And when it comes to locations, we will talk over email or phone and I will ask a few questions - based on your answers I will make suggestions of the best locations we can go to but of course if you already have one picked out - even better!

For all of my clients I offer more than just my photography - I offer friendship, attention to detail, planning, stress relief and family management, and much, much more - all to ensure that you have nothing to worry about during your wedding day or your family session except enjoying yourselves and making the best of memories.

Everything begins when we meet - I try to get to know you (if the session allows us to) over a cup of coffee or a phone call and while you tell me about yourself I make sure I answer all and any of your questions not just about my photography process, but about vendors (I do work with preferred vendors if you would like to know the best of the best), planning tips and try to offer any advice on how to make this process easier and even more fun - because let’s face it, planning your wedding or even a family session can get stressful so I want to be there for you!

For my brides, to take with you, I give you a FoxHillFineArt Wedding Experience magazine, designed with you in mind. In this magazine you will find most of the information you might need to be photo ready on your wedding day and even before. But it doesn’t stop there. In order to get to know you through this process I offer complimentary engagement sessions and even though you might have already had a session like that, I urge you to take me up on this complimentary offer so we can get to know each other and I can help guide you through the process of getting comfortable while looking your best.
